Let's Talk About What's Going On at the Pump

You felt it already. Pulled up to a gas station recently and just... yeah. Five dollars, maybe more depending on where you're sitting in the country. It's not a regional thing anymore. This one's hitting everybody.

And it's bigger than just gas prices.

What's been unfolding since late February is the kind of global energy mess that makes your head spin. Brent crude (the international benchmark most people never think about until it punches them in the wallet) was sitting around $60 a barrel back in January. By mid-March it had blown past $90. That's a 50%-plus spike in under three months. The trigger was the escalating military conflict involving Iran, which effectively closed off the Strait of Hormuz. That one narrow waterway carries something like a fifth of the world's crude. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, the UAE all pulled back production on top of it. The price reaction was, to put it plainly, brutal.

For trucking and freight, this stuff doesn't stay abstract for long.

Diesel is the lifeblood of every load that moves across this country. On a long haul, fuel can eat up more than 40 cents of every dollar spent on the trip. Surcharge adjustments of 8 to 20% started rolling out across North America as early as the first week of March. Some of those numbers are being revised weekly now. The ground is shifting that fast.

We're not going to dress that up.

Here's what we want you to hear directly from us: we're not sitting on our hands. Honest Freight is based in California's Central Valley, one of the busiest freight corridors in the nation, and we've been running loads long enough to know that panic doesn't move a pallet and finger-pointing doesn't lower a rate. What actually helps is a company who picks up the phone, tells you the truth, and then goes to work finding you options. That's the job. That's what we're doing.

Nobody can call up the Strait of Hormuz and ask it to reopen. What we can do is be straight with you. If something's going to cost more, you'll hear it from us first, with a real explanation and, where we can, actual alternatives. No mystery line items. No "fuel adjustment" buried three rows down on an invoice.

The goods moving across this country matter. So does the trust you place in the people moving them.

Things are bumpy right now. Genuinely bumpy. But we're here, we're watching the market every single day, and we're in your corner no matter where you're shipping from or to.

Honest Freight: real talk, always.

Got questions about your shipment or what any of this means for your rates? Call us. We'd rather have an honest conversation than leave you guessing.
